The following links are listed to provide you with additional  mental health care information. The following is not meant to be a comprehensive list, nor is it an endorsement of the content of the sites.

Alaska’s 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline - Available for crisis support. The website includes direct communication links and extended resources, including information for specific populations.  Call or text 9-8-8 - available 24/7/365

Mental Health America - Online mental health screening: free, anonymous, confidential, and validated screening tools to help individuals understand and learn more about their mental health

National Alliance on Mental Illness, Alaska chapter - Extensive resources for people who experience mental illness. Lots of educational information for families as well. Includes calendar of online and in-person support groups.

Perinatal and Reproductive Mental Health

MGH Center for Women’s Mental Health - Reproductive psychiatry information and resources

Mother To Baby - Evidence-based information on exposures during pregnancy and breastfeeding

National Maternal Health Hotline - Free, confidential hotline for pregnant & new moms. Call or text 1-833-852-6262, 24/7/365

Postpartum Support International - Pregnancy and postpartum mental health resource. PSI Helpline - call or text “Help” to 1-800-944-4773, 4am to 7pm Alaska time

Specific Conditions

National Center for PTSD (within the Department of Veterans Affairs) - Oriented towards veterans, but this is a good resource for non-veterans as well.  Educational materials and specialized apps.

Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance - National organization focusing on depression and bipolar disorder.

Psych Education - Information on living with and care for depression and bipolar disorder. In process of being updated, but still some good resources.

International OCD Foundation - The Foundation provides patient and professional education related to obsessive-compulsive disorder

Anxiety and Depression Association of America - Education and peer support related to anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, OCD, panic disorder, phobias

Alaska Eating Disorders Alliance - Resources and information for people and families affected by eating disorders

Brainline - Resource for people with TBI, their families and caregivers, and professionals

Brain Injury Association of America - Resources related to brain injury, including state and national connections

Substance Use, Addiction, and Harm Reduction

SAMHSA’s National Helpline - Helpline and resources for people and families experiencing substance use and/or mental disorder. Also has an online treatment location service, including for buprenorphine.   Call 1-800-662-4357, available 24/7/365

National Council on Problem Gambling - For people struggling with gambling problems and their families.  Includes a self-assessment tool, FAQ, & information on treatment. The Alaska page links to online support groups. 1-800-GAMBLER or text 800GAM

Fireside Project - The support line provides emotional support during and after psychedelic experiences. Call or text 62-FIRESIDE (1-623-473-7433), open every day 10 am to 10 pm Alaska time.

4As Syringe Exchange - Needle exchange and safer injection supplies in the Valley and in Anchorage.

Project Hope - free Narcan nasal spray kits at listed pharmacies. Call ahead for availability. 

Survivors and Families of Survivors

STAR Alaska - Responding to the needs of survivors of sexual assault. 800-477-8999 (statewide) or 907-276-7273, 24/7/365

RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network) - Operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline, provides resources and information to help survivors and their families. 1-800-656-4673 for the hotline, 24/7/365. Chat available on the webpage.

National Domestic Violence Hotline - Provides support related to domestic violence, including information, safety planning, emergency resources, digital privacy. Call 1-800-799-SAFE, text START to 88788, or chat is available on the website.

Local Resources

Links Resource Center - Valley-based organization offering resources, advocacy, and connection to relevant services. Includes the Aging and Disability Resource Center, Veterans Directed Care (allows veterans extended home-based and long term care services), the High Utilizer Mat-Su program (for people with complex care needs), and the Community Parent Resource Center. Connect Mat-Su - Health and social services information hub for the Valley. Call 907-373-2628

Alaska 211 - your one stop call for finding community health and human services resources in Alaska. The website includes a searchable database of services, or call 211.

Wasilla Area Seniors and Matsu Seniors - Senior centers for the Valley. Wasilla Area Seniors includes mid-valley services in the Big Lake area. Offerings include weekday lunch, Meals on Wheels, exercise classes, a gym, a computer lab, transportation, case management, in home care, classes, and other services.

Apps

Breathe2Relax - Free app from NIMH to help learn breathwork techniques to address anxiety and stress

AIMS for Anger Management - Free app from Veterans Affairs, designed to help you manage anger and irritability 

Virtual Hope Box - Mobile app to help with coping, relaxation, distraction, and positive thinking

Safety Plan - App version of the Stanley-Brown Safety Plan. This helps you to identify sources of support and personal coping strategies to use in the event of a psychiatric crisis.

Oak - Free meditation app which includes some instruction. Only available on iOS.

Insight Timer - Free with paid add-ons app which includes meditation tools and support.
